Brazilian Macaws Association
Project type
Vector Illustration
Date
2020
This emblem was the result of intensive image vectorization work, for two reasons: the detailed characteristics of the illustrated animals and the technical rigor of the clients, veterinarians specializing in wild birds.
Rogério Venâncio, Plínio Mantovani, and Marcos Romero, partners in the association whose name is the project title, needed an emblem for this organization, whose objective is to work for the conservation of specific bird species: the Hyacinth Macaw, the Scarlet Macaw, and the Blue-and-yellow Macaw – protected species at the Farm's Breeding Center.
There was a meticulous need to respect the anatomy, colors, and proportions between these three elements. Anticipating the vector execution of the project, we held several meetings to interpret real images of the animals. The interpretation of light and shadow in photographs used as a reference for this type of work is extremely important, since not everything we see is "real".
Example: the red coloration in an animal can be influenced by sunlight, as well as colored reflections from objects on which natural or artificial light falls, altering the natural appearance of the elements, both in color itself and in volume. Depending on the subtleties involved in species classification, a mistaken observer might even conclude that it is another species variation.
At the end of this study, we reached a conclusion about all the color nuances that would be most suitable for the emblem and proceeded to the correction phases.
According to specialized veterinarians, the three species depicted in vector form correspond to the real animals, in the eyes of a technical viewer, the type of audience that comes into contact with this project: conservation breeding centers, university courses, laboratories, etc.
The result was produced in patch format, inserted into the official work uniforms of the veterinary team of the Brazilian Macaw Association.
