Lazarus Ramos - Sacramento
Project type
Digital Painting
Date
November 4, 2025
Local
Minas Gerais Room - Belo Horizonte
Lázaro, through some of his most recent works, has strongly evoked the memory of his mother as a spark of encouragement in his journey, as well as a teacher through countless obstacles in life.
I sought in ancestral culture, in the production of natural African accessories, the visual concept to create this "womb" formed by shells, cowrie shells, feathers, arrows, bracelets, stones, twine, among other raw materials from historical Black costumes and spirituality.
The result alludes to a kind of totem, coat of arms, or amulet of protection, struggle, and (re)birth. An authentic way to honor both Lázaro and Dona Célia Maria do Sacramento.
The framed artwork was given to Lázaro at the LED Festival, held at the Minas Gerais Philharmonic in Belo Horizonte.
