Postgraduate Studies at PUC Minas - Creative Writing E-book
Project type
Graphic Design
Date
2019
Function
Graphic Designer and Communications Consultant
My advisors and directors of the Creative Processes and Creative Writing courses – Tailze Melo and Renata Alencar – invited me to develop visual identity projects for presentations, social media, an e-book, and supplementary materials for classes. I was able to contribute to greater reach and launch of materials, improving the schedule and freeing up the teachers' agendas, allowing them to focus on the conceptual planning of classes, lectures, and thematic exhibitions. I joined the team, focusing on translating theoretical concepts into visual results.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
In the case of this e-book, I created a visual metaphor for the intimate relationship between writing and freedom, in the sense of personal expression. The book, as a symbol of a product constituted basically by texts, emerges from a condition of imprisonment, anguish, and lack of perspective, represented by the bars, to become a living organism with wings, adopted as a reference to an expanded horizon, an elevated state of mind, and growth.
In a deeper and more abstract analysis, we can understand visual identity as representing the distance a person creates from their own work, allowing for critical vision and a mental map of their own creation. Flight allows animals that evolved to do so to observe the geography of their environment. The book takes flight to transcend its original condition of existence.
This visual identity was used as the cover and graphic standard for the presentation of the Creative Writing program, a component of the Postgraduate Program in Creative Processes.
