Project type

Digital Painting

Date

September 5, 2025

Local

Salta Tereza Viaduct - Belo Horizonte

Ancestral (Orange/Yellow/Green):

In this artwork, we have two of the main ancestral symbols superimposed: the Aya and the Sankofa. Definitions:

>> Aya: "The ancestral symbol Aya belongs to the Adinkra script, originating from the Akan people of Ghana and Ivory Coast, and represents independence, resistance, perseverance, and overcoming. Its form is a stylization of a fern, a plant that grows in difficult places, symbolizing the ability to prosper and flourish even in adverse conditions."

>> Sankofa: "The ancestral symbol of a bird looking back, an Adinkra icon from West Africa, meaning "to go back and get" or "to return to retrieve what was left behind."

Candle Holder (Candles):

Combining the lyrics of "Candeia" (Perpetual) and the representation of the three band members, the scene features three burning candles illuminating the title in their handcrafted candle holders.

Symbolism and tradition of African origin regarding ancestral strength and guidance were represented through the two cowrie shell necklaces on the sides.

Textures, materials, and organic features such as chalk, iron, wax, wood, and a human femur are part of the overall aesthetic of the artwork.

The artworks were delivered in person at the "O Dia de Rock" event, held under the Santa Tereza Viaduct, an iconic stage for independent art in Belo Horizonte, on September 5, 2025.
