Eminence is about to release their new studio album, recorded in Denmark. Following the band's diary on social media, I asked Alan Wallace (guitar) and Bruno Paraguay (vocals) to give me, as much as possible, some insight/trait/theme from this current work in order to create a tribute artwork based on it. I also thank them for the privilege of providing me with the lyrics and music for three tracks from this new project before its official release.
The general concept of this track concerns the character's process of overcoming (or not) difficulties. The lotus flower is popularly known for being born and developing in mud. It is a symbol of resistance in an ecosystem.
The icy, stony, uncompromising atmosphere of the scene comes through the use of cool tones, blues, and nuances of green. 90% is submerged in dangerous waters, full of thorns and submerged roots.
The character, like Narcissus, gazes at his own reflection in this swamp of affliction and screams, like a cry for help at the limit of hope.
To be consistent with the art style, I distanced myself from what is expected of the appearance of a Lotus. The rustic features, pointed and aggressive shapes, more closely resemble stalagmites, cavernous and frozen rocks, than flower petals themselves.
The exposed brain also reinforces the idea of the explicit intimacy on the verge of death (or overcoming) of the one who tries to catch his breath.
The band's logo already existed, being inserted in a planned location and integrated into the artwork.
Original lyrics excerpt:
"It's killing my mind!
My reflection’s drowning in the tide.
Roots entwined in currents wide.
I bloom from the filth and stone, but I can’t breathe.
I wanna... I wanna let go!"
