Krisiun - I Praise the Lord

Project type

Digital Painting

Date

September 14, 2025

Local

Mister Rock - Belo Horizonte

The artwork was developed with inspiration from some of the band's lyrics, including the verse that makes up the subtitle at the bottom (track "Blood of Lions"). Thematic references such as hypocrisy and religious manipulation, and anti-dogma and authentic rebellion were represented.

At the center, as the protagonist of the work, we have a face (based on Pope Leo XIX) that has suffered deformity, blending with the texture of a snake's skin, a symbol traditionally associated with perversity, falsehood, hidden interests, and poison. Its partially exposed brain induces a feeling of discovering a reality forcibly exposed, the destruction of fundamentalist religious lies, especially supremacist Catholicism.

The crown of thorns refers to the biblical object as a metaphor for torture, reinforcing the artistic contrast between the divine and the damned. The texture was adapted to fill the base of the artwork, as well as an uncomfortable "bed" of aggressive organic material, where the greatest religious figure in the world "rests."

In a relatively abstract way, both sides of the artwork feature forms of classical architecture, alluding to stained glass windows and church arches, with full-bodied snakes climbing up. Evil is born in the figure of the Pope and contaminates his surroundings.

As the subtitle "I Praise No Lord" states, the overall expression of this tribute artwork is a rejection of any kind of supremacy of thought and behavior.

The logo/typography of the title already existed, but it was hand-painted for the artwork.

The artwork was personally delivered at the Krisiun show at Mister Rock, in Belo Horizonte, on September 14, 2025.
