Battle Scars
Battle Scars (2022), as the name itself suggests, is a piece of art to remember the period at the end of the pandemic and the beginning of the post-pandemic era, in which everyone, especially Brazilian audiovisual professionals, emerged with numerous wounds, both mental and physical.
The artwork contains a skull and spine intensely worked in the pointillism technique (in which light and shadow, volume and geometry are achieved through the proximity or distance between painted points, forming a very organic result), one of the cornerstones of my artistic practice.
Not surprisingly, the spine presents a severe fracture, breaking it horizontally in the middle, which (supposedly) would cause paralysis of the body. In addition, 11 arrows are embedded along the entire skeletal "figure" of the artwork, further aggravating the injuries.
Upon completing this artwork, the lasting symbol is the strength and resilience of our artistic community in overcoming obstacles, learning from the process, and, despite the visible scars, not using our anger and anguish for negative purposes. Our talent lies in channeling negative feelings into the production of the scene.
