This project was conceived by me in partnership with Lorovet Veterinary Consulting (partners at the time: Rogério Venâncio, Plínio Mantovani, and Marco Romero) and the Fazenda Cachoeira Breeding Center (MG) – a Brazilian reference in the conservation and reproduction of endangered birds.
“Caipora” is the name of this specimen (painting in the post) Spix's Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii) which, against all odds, managed to survive and reproduce within the program. A portion of the sales of the painting was donated to the Fazenda Cachoeira Breeding Center.
It is important to clarify that the approval process for this painting, in addition to being realistic (an artistic style whose result resembles a "photograph" of the real subject of inspiration), was carried out by veterinary doctors specializing in wild birds. In other words, the requirement for recognition of anatomical details, both in structure and coloration, was quite high. Besides needing to correspond to a specific species, the painting portrayed a SPECIMEN, that is, a particular animal within the species.
